About Dr. Spencer's
Groundhog Series of Children's Books
juliaandphil.gif (42224 bytes) Julia Spencer wasn't scheduled to give birth on Groundhog Day. But her first child, Meredith, who was expected on Valentine's Day, cast her first shadow on Feb. 2, 1982. And now Spencer is one of Punxsutawney Phil's biggest fans.
Spencer, of Avon, Conn. is the author of a series of children's books about Punxsutawney Phil, the famous northwestern Pennsylvania groundhog who predicts annually when spring will arrive.
The first, "The Story of Punxsutawney Phil - The Fearless Forecaster" (Literary Publications) was released on Feb. 2, 1987, Phil's 100th birthday and her daughters fifth. The second, "Will Spring Ever Come to Gobbler's Knob?"(Literary Publications) came out five years later. A third, "Punxsutawney Phil and His Weather Wisdom",(Literary Publications) came out in January, 1997 in hardcover and in paperback January, 1998.

Dr. Spencer has been called by some, "The Groundhog Lady!" Maybe one day she'll be called, "The Cat Woman" because she is currently writing some stories about cats. Says Dr. Spencer,
"When I write, one of my cats, (if not all three) keeps me company. My cats like to sit on top of my computer, desk, or printer.
They love to step on the keyboard when I want to type. I even have a cat screen saver!"
